Step By Step Demonstration
Watercolour:

was attracted to this subject by the wonderful atmospheric, early
morning light, producing such long shadows.
Care was taken
to maintain the light throughout the painting, building the 'darks'
gradually, to ensure tonal harmony. |

Materials
Used:
Paper:
Arches Block 140lb 'Not'
Colours:
(Winsor & Newton Artists' Quality tube Watercolours)
Raw Sienna, Raw Umber,
Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Violet, Aureolin,
Viridian,
Burnt Sienna &
Permanent Magenta.
Brushes: Nos.
2, 4, 8 &10 Sables
No 2 Rigger.
Masking Fluid
Step
One:
The subject
was drawn out, using a 2B pencil & all 'lights' masked out. |

Two:
Initial washes, mixed
ready for use. |

Three:
The paper was
wet thoroughly before introducing the colours. |

Four:
The initial
'Wet into Wet' wash. |

Six:
Washes were
added to the distant fields, using pure mixes of Aureolin, Raw Sienna,
Cerulean Blue & Cobalt Violet, painted 'Wet into Wet'
The trees &
hedgerow on the left hand side, was painted using Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine
Blue, Raw Sienna & Viridian. |

Seven:
The foreground
field was painted using stronger mixes of Raw Sienna, Aureolin,
Cerulean & Cobalt Violet. |

Eight:
Trees were 'added'
using the No2 Rigger & mixes of Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna
& Cobalt Violet, varying the mixes to give changes in tone &
colour.
