Menston Arts Club (Monday 4th February 2008)

On viewing the painting in the studio this morning, I decided to add further Cerulean Blue washes to the fields in the foreground.
I also completed the trees & near hedgerow with mixes of:
Cobalt Violet & Raw Sienna
Ultramirine Blue & Burnt Sienna
Burnt Sienna & Ultramarine Blue
Additional 'darks' were introduced around the farmhouse to ensure it stood out from its surroundings.
The last decision I made was to crop half an inch from the bottom edge of the painting, as some light 'shapes' were too prominant in the bottom left hand corner.
A larger image of the completed painting can be viewed by visiting the 'Recent Additions Page' on my website.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Hope to see you all again soon.

Hello Robert
It was a most inspirational demonstration you kindly gave at Menston. I am compelled to pick up my watercolours again complete with masking fluid to try to achieve a winter scene, bearing in mind the 70 stages of planning which you go to I will have to practice a bit.
It was lovely to hear an artist who based his work on the prep and planning and honesty in how his hard labours arrive at such strikingly good results.
The quality of light attained in the painting on that evening was terrific.
The finished painting likewise.
I lookforward to seeing your exhibition in May.
Thank you for the informative evening,
Best Wishes from , Elizabeth Waterhouse
