Bonfire Night! 5th November 2008

We all know that Bonfire Night celebrates the foiling of the plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605 by a Guy Fawkes & other Catholic conspirators, but did you know that the celebration was compulsory, by Royal Decree, until 1859?
