Quotation (26th July 2005)

The beautiful is that which excites the aesthetic sense in the artist. What is beautiful to an artist to-day will be beautiful to all and sundry in ten years.

Tall Ships Coming to Whitby 22nd to 24th July 2005

The Tall Ships will be coming into Whitby over the weekend of the 22nd to 24th July, with the 44.5 Metre Europa arriving on Thursday afternoon Hopefully all 15 tall ships should be moored in the harbour by 6pm on Friday! It should be a great opportunity for us all to get some good photographs for future paintings!
All the ships will be leaving Whitby on Sunday 24th, following a spectacular firework display on Saturday night.
Not to be missed!

Painting Tip (13th July 2005)

If you want to use 'Glass Paper' for your pastel painting, but wish to alter the colour of the ground, use a watered down mix of Acrylic paint, to suit.

Something to take into consideration when using 'Glass Paper', although it gives plenty of 'tooth', you will find that your pastels are used at a far quicker rate than on a smoother surface!

"There are no rules about investment.
Sharks can be good. Artist’s dung can be good. Oil on canvas can be good.
There’s a squad of conservators out there to look after anything an artist decides is art."

Painting Tip (3rd July 2005)

If you're not happy using pastels on traditional papers and boards, try using a very fine Glass Paper. (P400 & P500 are suitable).

I use a grey or black paper, pre-mounted on card.
The black paper provides a stunning dark ground, perfect for using strong colours & light effects.

An example of this can be seen in the painting, 'Camber Sands, East Sussex'
