Choosing A Watercolour Palette

Conventional palettes are made of the following materials:

White Ceramic
Enamelled Metal
Plastic

My personal choice would be for either a ceramic or metal palette. Although plastic ones are light and relatively cheap, when new, the pools of colour tend to globalize. After some time the plastic tends to discolour and stain as the plastic is slightly porous
Enamelled integral palettes are extremely useful, especially for outdoor use.
Some boxes have a hinged flap & a thumb hole (or thumb hinge on the back)

For studio use I have several ceramic palettes, including a ‘slanted well’ rectangular palette and a seven ‘well’ round palette

Of course, you do not need to ‘buy’ a palette, an old plate or yogurt pot would do! As with everything, use whatever suits you the best.
