Setting Up Your Studio (Part One)

Your Studio should your very own personal workspace. It should have good light, a certain degree of comfort, and a place where you can work in complete isolation from the distractions of everyday life.

Considerations should be given to the following:

-A separate room with space for work and contemplation, if possible.
-An adjustable work desk / layout area.
-A blend of warm and cool artificial lighting.
-Comfortable seating both for working and relaxation.
-Storage space for all your materials, easels and finished works (both framed and mounted)
-A filing cabinet for paperwork.
-If you work from your own digital photographs, consideration should be given regarding a place for your computer, and all printing paper etc.
-Make sure that your work space is heated correctly. From my experience working in a studio that is either too hot or too cold, depending on the weather, is not advisable.

During the next few weeks I will be discussing all the above considerations and more, with photographs from my own studio, showing how I have resolved these matters.
