Beck Hole The Birch Hall Inn

Well, it's that time of year again when the delicious Masham Ale has arrived at our favourite pub, The Birch Hall Inn at Beck Hole
(Tel: 01947 896 245)

What could be a better way to spend your lunch time, sitting in front of a roaring fire eating a Beck Hole Butty, drinking a 'half' of Masham & chatting to friends? Aah!

So, if you get chance, pop along, and experience a truly traditional English pub!

The Frog, BTW, was a pressie from Glenys (Landlady, friend & fellow artist!) 5 or 6 years ago!!

The Meaning of Sayings (8)

'A Soap Opera'

Used as a well known term for a regular TV drama, usually based around 'normal' life.

It's origin dates back to 1920 with an American radio programme called Amos & Andy. The show was always broadcast during 'prime time' for family listening, so the soap manufacturers, Proctor & Gamble started to advertise their products during the breaks & later sponsored the programme.

Soon after, other soap manufacturers followed suit with other shows, and they were referred to generally as 'soaps'.

The word 'opera' was borrowed from the term for cowboy films of the 1930s the popular 'horse operas'
