Painting Holidays in France for 2010

I'm really pleased to have been invited to tutor 2 Painting Holidays in France next year.

Both courses will be held in Angles sur I'Anglin, a medieval village deep in unspoilt rural France, south of the Loire Valley, about 45km from Poitiers, in the beautiful home of Nichole & John a spacious 15th Century house of character situated in one of the old medieval streets, close to the river & opposite a 12th Century chapel. They have a private pool & garden, with great views of the chateau ruins & woods.

It's a painter's paradise, with lots for non painters to do too! Have a look at Sainte-Croix Painting Holidays site for more photos & information

I'm really looking forward to it, hope you can join me?

"Painting Boats & Coastal Scenery"

I'm really pleased & excited to tell you, that my first book, "Painting Boats & Coastal Scenery" is available to buy from my website

The book covers all aspects of painting coastal scenery at home & abroad, from large sweeping beachscapes to more intimate studies of harbours & boats,

There are 20 'Step By Step' demonstrations, exploring the importance of light and how to create harmony, tone and colour, with emphasis on drawing, sketching and plein-air painting.

I've included instruction on painting water and skies & coastal scenes, from my own painting trips in Britain and abroad.

If you would like to purchase a signed copy, please visit the Shop

Monk Fryston Art Club 20th July 2009

I'd like to thank everyone who attended my demonstration yesterday.

I completed the pastel this morning by spending a little time working on the reflections on the left hand side, covering more of the terracotta under painting of the board, but other than that, it is as it was.

If you'd like to ask anything, please contact me.

Residential Painting Workshop in Staithes

Looking Back........

We were having a bit of a 'sort out' in the attic earlier this week & I came across these old paintings & thought I'd share them!!!!!

'The Blacksmith' was painted in Oil in the 1980's & was awarded the best Oil painting in the ‘British Coal’ open painting competition. The prize was a handsome cheque of £90, quite a sum in those days!!

Kolhapur On Shed’ (Oil) Was painted during my passion for everything Steam. These days steam locomotives as a painting subject have been replaced by my love of painting boats & coastal scenery.

'Locomotion’ (Acrylic) Another steam painting, this time a detailed look at the running gear of a steam locomotive.

I was thinking that I might include them in my forthcoming 'One Man' Exhibition at the Pannett Art Gallery, 12th September to 1st October 2009.

Hornsea Art Society 10th July 2009

Many thanks for to all who attended last night's Watercolour demonstration. Liz & I really enjoyed meeting you.
This is the painting as it was when I left you:-

To complete this Watercolour I carried out the following:

Washers of Ultramarine Blue & Burnt Sienna and Burnt Sienna & Ultramarine were added to the barges, masts & sails.

Small highlights were added to the barges around the deck area with Acrylic White, tinted with a little Cobalt Blue.

I added a few coloured flags.

Further rigging was added, being careful not to 'over' detail.

Please contact me if you have any queries

Once again thank you all for your hospitality & I hope to see you again next year.
